Passports

Baby package – citizenship, passport and Social Security number in one appointment.

A baby born in Israel to an American parent needs three documents: a Consular Report of Birth Abroad, a passport and a Social Security number. All three can be done at the same Embassy visit – if you arrive prepared.

What you get

  • Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA) – proof that the child is a US citizen from birth. It serves them for life.
  • First US passport – for children under 16 it’s valid for 5 years.
  • Social Security number (SSN) – without it there is no child tax refund, which can reach $1,700 a year.

We fill in every form, prepare an exact document list, book the appointment and prepare you for the visit – so you leave with everything, not with “a document is missing, come back”.

Who qualifies

When at least one parent is a US citizen, the baby is a citizen from birth – provided the parent lived in the US long enough before the birth:

  • One citizen parent: usually 5 years in the US in total, 2 of them after age 14.
  • Both parents citizens: it’s enough that one of them lived in the US at some point before the birth.

The parent didn’t live in the US long enough? There is another route – citizenship through a grandparent, using the grandparent’s years.

A CRBA can be done until 18, but earlier is better: documents are easier to find, and without a Social Security number you miss the child refund every year.

How it works

Check and checklist

We confirm eligibility and send a tailored document list: birth certificates, passports, marriage certificate and proof of the parent’s years in the US.

Forms and appointment

We complete every form – CRBA, passport and Social Security – and book the appointment at the Embassy in Jerusalem or the Branch Office in Tel Aviv.

The visit

You arrive with an organized file. Both parents and the baby usually attend; there are cases where one parent can be absent.

Everything by mail

The certificate and passport usually arrive within a few weeks, and the Social Security card after that.

Frequently asked questions

How soon after the birth should we start?

As soon as you have the Israeli birth certificate and ID number. There’s no rush, but every year without a Social Security number is a year without the child tax refund.

Do both parents need to come to the Embassy?

Usually yes, because a passport for a child under 16 needs both parents’ consent. If a parent can’t attend, there is a signed consent form – we’ll tell you exactly what’s needed.

How do I prove I lived in the US for 5 years?

School and university records, payslips, tax returns, Social Security records, leases. We build the proof with you from what you have.

Our child is older. Is it still possible?

Yes – a CRBA can be done until 18. After that the process is more complicated. Our price is the same at any age.

Why not do it ourselves?

You can, and the forms are free. Most people who go alone have to come back because of a missing document or insufficient proof – and a new Embassy appointment can take time. We save you the second round.
